SSI Specialty Course
Boat Diving Specialty
Diving from a boat opens up Florida’s best water — but it comes with its own routine: entries and exits, current, tag lines, dive flags, and staying oriented in blue water. The SSI Boat Diving specialty makes it second nature so you can relax and enjoy the ride.
Where you’ll dive
Jupiter. We run boat diving out of Jupiter, one of the most exciting dive areas in the country — fast, fun drift dives over healthy reefs and wrecks, big pelagic life, sea turtles, and the famous summer goliath grouper aggregations. It’s the ideal classroom for learning to dive from a moving boat in real conditions.
What you’ll learn
Boat-diving etiquette and safety; entries and exits from a moving vessel; drift-diving technique and staying with your group; using surface signaling and dive flags; and pre-dive planning with a boat crew.
Prerequisites
SSI Open Water Diver (or equivalent). A natural pairing with Deep and Navigation — and a boat dive made during your SSI Advanced Open Water course can be credited toward this specialty.
