Enriched Air Nitrox
Enriched air (nitrox) is the most popular specialty in diving for one simple reason: more time underwater. By breathing a higher percentage of oxygen and less nitrogen, you extend your no-decompression limits — longer dives, shorter surface intervals, and many divers report feeling less worn out after a full day of diving. The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox specialty certifies you to plan and dive with blends up to 40% oxygen.
What you’ll learn
How enriched air works and why it extends your bottom time; analyzing your tank and setting your dive computer; managing oxygen exposure and your maximum operating depth; and safely planning nitrox dives.
Where you’ll use it
Nitrox pays off anywhere you do repetitive dives — Florida’s springs, our boat days out of Jupiter, and the deeper reefs and wrecks off Pompano Beach. The academic portion is flexible: study online or in the classroom on your schedule, and there’s no required training dive for the standard course, so it’s one of the fastest certifications you can add.
Prerequisites
SSI Open Water Diver (or equivalent). A smart pairing with Deep Diving and one of the most popular specialties in diving.
