Diving Hudson Grotto

Hudson Grotto in Hudson, Florida is a private brackish-water dive park built for going deep. Sheltered from wind, current, and boat traffic, its grotto drops to roughly 130 feet — making it one of the best places on the Gulf side to earn your deep certification and log real depth in a controlled, shore-accessible setting.

⚠️ Not for the faint of heart

Hudson Grotto is a genuine deep, dark dive — treat it that way. Sunlight fades fast: by about 30 feet you lose the daylight, and it stays dim the rest of the way down to roughly 130. Every dive here should be planned as a deep, low-visibility dive, not a casual splash.

Required every time you dive this site
  • Two dive lights — a primary and a backup. Never dive the grotto on a single light.
  • A tank marker light so your buddy and the surface can keep track of you in the dark.
  • A wetsuit in the winter months — the water turns cold and you'll want the exposure protection.
Train for it first

We strongly recommend the Night & Limited Visibility specialty before you dive here — it builds the light-handling, buddy-contact, and navigation skills the grotto demands. Pair it with Deep Diving or your Advanced Open Water deep dive to be ready for the depth.
